Who invented the steam engine?

The first steam engine was designed in 1698 by Thomas Savery, an English engineer. Engine does not have a direct usage.
There was another invention: Thomas Newcomen in 1712, with no great result, the same as James Watt in 1776 ..

The first engineer that managed to adapt a steam engine for a car was Nicolas Cugnot in 1769.
